Spring is here and the spring flowers are not only blooming, many have started to fade. Our rhubarb is nearly knee-high and weeds are doing their best to take over the garden beds. Not that I felt like doing any weeding over the weekend — cleaning up from the coffee spill took most of Saturday and on Sunday we wanted to go walk at the zoo. That seemed particularly important as we'd tried to go for a long walk Saturday evening and I didn't even make it all the way down to 12 Mile before I admitted defeat and had us turn around and return home. I'm not so much sick as cold and exhausted. Next week I see my sleep apnea doctor and I'm looking forward seeing him. I have two CPAP machines, the first one I got and then the second, a newer model that records what it does. I figured the doctor would want the data and switched to using the newer model a week or two ago. I have a harder time sleeping with new one and I'm not sure why. It is quieter, it seems to blow harder, and absolutely worst of all, it doesn't humidify the air as effectively as the old machine. After two or three hours my throat hurts so much it wakes me up. Drinking a half liter of water puts a dent in the pain and I go back to bed. I'm wondering if there is something I can do to the machine to increase the humidity of the air I'm breathing.

The trip to the zoo was far different than it was during the winter, the biggest difference being the number of zoo visitors. I knew it was going to be crowded when, before we even reached the gated entrance I saw cars parked on the lawn. The parking structure was full and the big parking lot had cars squeezed into nooks and crannies that aren't actual parking places. We walked around for a few hours and then went out to dinner.

OMG, This was MCFC's charity guest of honor
So, there I am, reading cheezburger like everyone else and think "Hmmm, that rather looks like where I was over the weekend." So I read the little blurb underneath and the dog's name is the same as the one I met. So I google a little and sure enough, that was them.

For someone who had never been exposed to furries before, she handled everything really well. As did her dog. He's a real sweetheart and delighted me by nearly knocking me over with his enthusiasm to be petted.

The photos on cheezburger aren't nearly as delightful as Nikon Lion's. I really don't understand anyone who wouldn't want to hang around such bright and colorful characters. As a general rule they are all wonderful people who are kind, polite, love animals, and very willing to open their wallets and support charities that help animals.

    Thinking about our current president
A few days ago I read something, somewhere, about how if Trump announced some other nation had launched a missile attacking our country the writer would want that announcement verified before he or she believed it. At the time my reaction was "Yeah, so would I." After 9/11 I was concerned that the nation was so upset we'd rush to find the guilty party and attack the wrong people. So apparently I'm not quick to believe the government, but I also had the thought that if Obama said (on tv or the radio where I could hear him say it) that North Korea had launched a missile strike against us, I'd have believed him right off the bat. I don't know if that means anything other than I trust Obama and really wish he were still our president.

Today I ran across this during my morning wander through the news: http://theslot.jezebel.com/we-redacted-everything-thats-not-a-verifiably-true-stat-1793571837.

    Sigh.

The highlights of the week were Saturday's visit to the Detroit Zoo and our trip to Oakland University on Sunday. When I left the house Saturday morning I thought we were going to the credit union and then coming straight back home. As the only thing on my agenda besides the banking was laundry, and knowing the zoo was only open for another two hours, I agreed to go. The trip itself was nice although most of the animals were hiding, presumably in their warmer indoor habitats. I was quite cold during our walk as I had only my hoodie, not my winter coat. The guanacos were the only animals I noticed that were outside and moving around. I saw a large flock of Flamingos near their usual location but they were inside an interior pen and not spread out as usual. The camels, on the other hand, looked perfectly content laying on the grass in the sun.

Sunday's Composers' Concert lasted just sixteen minutes and all sixteen were very good. Four pieces were performed, three written by Ian Lester (who used to be in the FCB with [livejournal.com profile] jebra and the remaining piece by Joshua Bryzelak, who wrote a choral piece based on the poem Without the Night which concerns the negative effects that technology and society have on nature. It was interesting both because I could make out the words and because they made sense to me. I tend to hate all vocal pieces but this one was an exception.

All three of Ian's pieces were excellent but not being a musician let alone a composer, I cannot even begin to tell you why. After the concert we walked around OU's campus playing Ingress, discovered their art gallery and walked through the current exhibit before resuming our game. I was hungry by then so we went to Burgrz for burgers, then to Trader Joes for groceries, to work to drop off some of our purchases. While at the office I wove in the ends on the most recently completed cat beds and had a photo taken of the collection for my records. Then it was time to go home and do my nightly chores, ride my exercise bike, and get into the shower.

Monday was work followed by laundry & exercise, Tuesday was work followed by a walk at park closest to the office, and today I'm back at work and struggling to stay awake.

Thank you to everyone who helped me celebrate my birthday. Getting ready for the trip to Indianapolis was exhausting and it's a good thing I wasn't the driver as I slept almost all of the way there. I also slept a lot while we were at the con — it's a nice hotel but our function space was crowded and *loud.* I think the longest I lasted in the main or side rooms was 15 minutes. After that it was either retreat to the hallway or to our room.

On Sunday, before heading home we went to Noblesville to meet up with our favorite harpist and have coffee with her. Then we stopped at my brother- and sister-in-law's house to have an early dinner with them. We got home around midnight, I think. And then stayed up to unpack and reassure the cats we were back where they think we belong. I arranged for us to take Monday off, which was good as I was a zombie all day. Although I did accidentally discover the fastest method of getting [livejournal.com profile] jebra out of bed — ask him what time it is and then ask him when the rental car was due back at Enterprise (in this case, the two numbers being the same).
